Reader has lots of questions for City of Greater Sudbury officials
Senior Technical Leader - Nuclear Maintenance Applications Center (NMAC), Nuclear Plant Technology Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Charlotte, NC 19 hours ago Be among the first 25 applicants. 2 days ago In news that will heap more pressure on Ian Foster ahead of Bledisloe II at Eden Park, Sir Graham Henry believes New Zealand Rugby 'c.ked up'. The state rules that govern the NM Medicaid program are found in Title 8, Social Services, of the NMAC. This section is commonly called the ‘policy manual’ but is more formally referred to as the rules. To go to an on-line version of the relevant chapters of the NMAC, click here.
So, there was a commercial on television for Earth Care minutes that lauds the value of composting and recycling. This is a great way to help protect and promote a healthy environment, so let’s get an answer to the following questions:
What does the city do with all of mother nature’s natural fertilizer (leaf and yard) when they collect it? Do they use it to help offset the cost of hauling in the sand to cover the landfill sites? Can we not make a good blend of both sand and leaf and yard to make a good mulch covering? How do they dispose of it and do they collect any revenue for such a worthy asset?
Time to go a little further now. What does the city do with all those grindings that are removed with the shave-and-pave program? How much of it is recycled into a new asphalt mix? Is that not the same product as the in-place reheating and reusing process we are looking at?
As an alternative, how much of it could be mixed with crushed gravel to give a good aggregate granular mix that would probably help offset shoulder erosion or give a good pre-paving robust granular base? Is there not serious value to this resource? We are paying to remove it, so why not reuse it?

While I’m at it, why not look at another low-hanging fruit that I’ve brought up before: Why not implement a policy and practice that will isolate cyclists from roadway traffic when we do the refurbishing of roadways, like adapting boulevards for bike routes with slight modifications to concrete curbs and signage placing? Maybe we can move a hydro pole or two to give us more room and, just in case some people come back with the too-narrow argument, take a ride on Loach’s Road. You will notice how narrow the painted roadway bike path is in some areas. Imagine how much paint and painting cost we could save year after year after year.
Ah, what the heck, let’s throw in one more. Speed limits on Robinson Street that use to be 40k/hr and are now 50k/hr with way more traffic since Southview Drive has had speed humps placed on it. I guess Helen Gravel school less than 100 metres away on Stephen Street wouldn’t qualify the area as a school zone, but Walford Street east of Paris Street is a no-parking, 40k/hr zone with no school on it. Yes, there is a barricaded concrete hospital property entrance where the hospital is at least 200 metres away.
Is there a lack of consistency? I think so.
Let’s not burn anyone at the stake for those shortfalls as that doesn’t correct issues, but can people not accept that such shortsightedness occurred and we will try to do better?
All I can say is, “Hey listen; I care about my city and I also question why we do things the way we do them at times” and I’m sure I’m not alone.
Maybe I’m not seeing the bigger picture, but I am helping foot the bill through taxes, so I should get some answers.

Kingsway Entertainment District better value for Sudbury
Which one of these two scenarios would be better for our city?
How much would the new downtown arena produce per year for the city in property taxes?
How much would the Kingsway Entertainment District (consisting of an arena, casino and hotel), plus the wages for the entire complex, produce per year for the city in property taxes?
Just a thought.
